“Home of the World’s Largest Turkey,” Frazee is situated on the Ottertail River in the heart of lakes country. At a population of only 1,374, Frazee is the second most populous town in Becker County. Located 10 miles from Detroit Lakes, 53 miles outside of Fargo, ND, and 190 miles from Minneapolis, Frazee offers peaceful living with plenty of access to larger cities.
Real estate in Frazee offers a variety of homes options from the serenity of the country to family friendly neighborhoods. This angelic town attracts tourists from all over as an escape from the busy city life as well as new residents looking for more tranquil living. Frazee’s school district, which includes Vergas, is composed of their secondary school, offering students in K-12 an excellent education and their elementary school, where they take pride in focusing on Pre-K through 6th grade to best prepare them for the upper level. The surrounding technical colleges include Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Detroit Lakes as well as Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Fergus Falls which offer students a chance to attend school closer to home. The enrollment sizes are 750 and 3,474, respectively providing closer student-teacher interaction, and greater opportunity for one-on-one attention compared to most larger universities.
Despite being a rural area, the majority of jobs in Frazee are commercial or industrial with the most prominent occupations being driver/sales workers, nursing, and production jobs.
Although the town may be small, there is still an abundance of activities to fill up the days. Their most notable would be the Tamarac Wildlife Refuge, which is one of the few natural wildlife refuges left in the country. Conveniently located 25 miles north of Frazee, the refuge spans 42,724 acres and is home to 258 species of birds and 50 species of mammals. One could also reconnect with nature at one of their four beautiful resorts including their most notable, Sunset Bay Resort. These provide the perfect setting for a family friendly vacation filled with fishing, sandy beaches, and a relaxing atmosphere. During the winter months, there are various ski and snowmobile trails throughout Becker County including 12 miles of the East Frazee Ski Trail which span the shoreline of five beautiful lakes.
